Abundance

According to Wikipedia abundance (noun) is…

  1. a very large quantity of something:

  2. the state or condition of having a copious quantity of something; plentifulness:

  3. plentifulness of the good things of life; prosperity:

  4. the quantity or amount of something, e.g., a chemical element or an animal or plant species, present in a particular area, volume, sample, etc.:

Living in fear and scarcity limits one’s ability to experience the good things in life. Not having enough of something, or believing that you do not have enough is a default setting that can drastically change one’s outlook on life and not for the better. I have spoken before about the power your mind has in shaping the world in which you live, specifically by how you narrate your experience. The way we speak to ourselves is a habit that we cultivate.  So if your habits include negativity, scarcity, fear, it is possible to change that story over time with practice. I have included some actionable ways below to cultivate abundance and hope as a lens through which to see your life.

The first step in creating change is awareness.

  • Generally, do you see the universe as benevolent or malevolent?

Bring awareness to where you focus.

What do you notice in life?

  • Are you grateful for what you have or are you wishing for something you don't?’

Start the day naming the blessings in your life

Small things count here, a bed, food, friends, sunshine

  • When you are aware of focusing on your fears, gently guide your thoughts to a time when you have overcome challenges. Your skills of strength and competence lie there.

It doesn’t have to be graceful or perfect, just complete.

Understand your process of overcoming and focus your attention on those skills in new situations.

  • Do you find yourself limiting your opportunities and your own capabilities?

Your potential is only limited by your mind.

Be curious.

How good can you stand it?

  • Bring to mind the things you love to do, how can you share those gifts with others?

Contribution is a powerful way to not only give back, but to gain perspective of your own life and create connections with others.

  • Do you get stuck in thought patterns or ruminate in old habits?

Move your body.

Change your physiology. Your body is intrinsically linked to your mind and breath.

Meditation is a practice in steadiness and resilience even as the mind evokes emotional responses.

In gratitude,
Kim
